Sooner or later, one of us must know…..

I saw the end before we`d begun………….

You didn`t mean to treat me so bad – I shouldn`t take it so personal
You didn`t mean to make me so sad – I just happened to be there, that`s all
When you saw me say "goodbye" to my friend and smile,
you thought that it was well understood
That I`d be coming back in a little while –
you didn`t know that I was saying goodbye for good..

But sooner or later, one of us must know that I just did what I was supposed to do
Sooner or later, one of us must know that you really did try to get close to me

You couldn`t see what I could show you – my scarf had kept my mouth well hid
You couldn`t see how I could know you – but I said I knew you and you believed I did..
When I whispered in your ear and asked you if you were leaving with me or her
You didn`t realize just what you did hear, you didn`t realize how young I am….

You couldn`t see when it started snowing – my voice was all that you heard
You couldn`t see where we were going – but I said I knew and you took my word
And then I told you later, as you apologized, that I was just kidding you – I wasn`t really from the farm
And you told me – as I clawed out your eyes – that you never really meant to do me any harm

But sooner or later, one of us must know that I just did what I was supposed to do
Sooner or later, one of us must know that you really did try to get close to me…..

Over Rebekka Eliza Dorothea Nirel Engels
